Every couple months I make a trip out to LA to see my sister. She went to UCLA for college and loved the city so much she never left. I’ve lost count of the number of times she’s tried to convince me to move down there. While I’d love to be closer to my sister I just know the big city life isn’t for me. I’ve always felt most at home in small, quiet places like Carmel, with lots of nature around me. With that being said, LA less than a 6 hour drive from me, and I absolutely love visiting the city.
A while back my sister and I made a pact that every time I came down she would take me to at least 3 new places. My most recent trip was just a couple weeks ago, and we visited my version of heaven—Bottega Louie.
Bottega Louie is a restaurant, café, and patisserie (bakery) in downtown Los Angeles, or as everyone in LA refers to it, DTLA. We stopped by to check out their famous macarons before I headed back to Carmel, and they did not disappoint!
Macarons are probably my second favorite dessert after my mom’s strawberry rhubarb pie, so seeing the rows and rows of different flavors was a little overwhelming, but in a good way of course. I seriously considered buying one of every kind, but I was stuffed from brunch and my sister promised to bring me some next month when she comes up to visit for my birthday, so I decided to limit myself to five. After admiring all 18 different flavors I chose Birthday Cake, Raspberry, Earl Grey, Pistachio, and Bananas Foster. They were all so pretty that I knew I had to snap some photos of them, so I decided to wait to eat them until I got back to Carmel that evening. Even though it took an incredible amount of willpower, I’m so glad I did.
Just look at this insanely pretty packaging!
Unfortunately a couple of them cracked during the drive back to Carmel, but believe me it didn’t affect how wonderful they tasted 😉
It was truly love at first bite, and all five flavors were DELICIOUS! It’s hard to choose favorites…but I’d probably have to say Birthday Cake and Earl Grey were my top two. Next time I’m definitely going to have to try the Chai, Salted Caramel, and Chocolate Mint!
So Bottega Louie is officially one of my favorite places in LA, and if you’re planning a trip I highly recommend trying some of their fabulous macarons! Now I’m just counting down the days until my sister comes to visit me with a box of these babies 😉
